An equine veterinarian who recently moved to northern Westchester County, New York, found a home with charming details but a dated primary bathroom. She brought in Curated Nest designers Erin Coren and Lina Galvão, who use Houzz Pro software, to reimagine the space. They layered warm textures, natural materials and thoughtful symmetry to create a striking transformation. A rattan light fixture, spacious white oak vanity, freestanding wood armoire with rattan doors and microcement walls add soft, organic texture, while a checkerboard marble floor brings a timeless touch. A young couple in Cambridge, England, set out to refresh their traditional home with a clean, modern sensibility while preserving its character. Inspired by the original flagstone floors and the owners’ love of Japandi style, designer Georgina Robertson, who uses Houzz Pro, created a kitchen with a large island, a warm wood storage wall, sleek gray-blue base cabinets and layered textures. Glass-front units, skylights and a thoughtful mix of lighting keep the space open and bright.
Elsewhere, a breakfast area features arched niches with custom shelving and storage, a family room shows off a refinished floor and updated fireplace, and the living room brings energy with coral sofas and a cushioned window seat. A redesigned study, utility room and bike storage add efficiency and order throughout.

A cramped layout, dated finishes and awkward closets left this Oregon primary en suite bathroom feeling smaller than its footprint. To create a space that better suited the single homeowner’s needs, designer Amy Pearson reworked the layout and refined the style to deliver a more open, functional and timelessly modern retreat.
By eliminating two closets — one in the bathroom and one in the bedroom — and shifting the door to the primary suite, Pearson was able to expand the bathroom by 14 square feet and introduce a more efficient floor plan. The new design includes dual floating walnut vanities with storage towers, a spacious low-curb shower that spans the width of the room and improved lighting and ventilation throughout.
A restrained palette of white, black, gray and brown highlights rich materials, including Carrara marble mosaic tile and warm wood cabinetry. Geometric-patterned wall tiles add drama and dimension, while luxe brass accents bring a refined touch. The result is a sophisticated, light-filled bathroom with smart storage and enduring style.

After: Schwarz rejiggered the layout, placing a new custom vanity on the left, followed by the toilet and a new low-curb shower where the bathtub had been. The custom rift-cut oak vanity has Shaker-style fronts, polished nickel knobs, a storage tower where the shower once stood and seven drawers (including a drawer under the sink cabinet). The countertop is polished Calacatta Super White porcelain. The vanity adds visual warmth to this calm, beachy space with ocean-inspired blue-green glazed ceramic tiles wrapping the shower walls and sand-colored square glass tiles covering the bottom portion of the side walls.

Clifford removed the old appliances, cabinets, counters and floor, along with the two-level island, making way for a more than 12-foot-wide, one-level island with seating and storage. “It offers a lot more options on how the island can be used,” she says. The new layout improves sightlines and makes the kitchen feel open and inviting.
The island base and perimeter cabinets are semicustom cherry flat-panels with a natural finish and matte black ledge pulls. “A lot of the woodwork in their home was already cherry, so we wanted to create a unified look,” Clifford says.
The upgraded stainless steel refrigerator stayed in place, while an added open upper cabinet and tall pantry on the side expand storage. “There are hooks inside that pantry cabinet for hanging a step stool and broom,” Clifford says.
Modern counter stools with cognac leather upholstery and curved low backs sit at the island, while contemporary pendant lights with etched opal glass shades and matte black frames hang overhead. The ceiling has new LED recessed lights on dimmers. “This gives them full control,” Clifford says.
